2025 – TGNZQS – Members Exhibition – Conditions of Entry

Overview:

Aotearoa Quilters invites entries to a Members only exhibition at The Great New Zealand Quilt Show to be held at the Airforce Museum of New Zealand, Christchurch from 16th to 18th of May 2025.

Quilt Details:

  1. Maximum quilt size is 230 cm in width and height. A limited amount of extensions are available for quilts up to 290 cm in height.
  2. “Quilts” is defined as being layered and stitched together.
  3. Entries must not be mounted or framed with hard materials.
  4. Entries that have been exhibited in any Aotearoa Quilters traveling exhibitions and GNZQS exhibitions, are not eligible.
  5. If your quilt replicates images that are subject to copyright, you must obtain permission from the owner or copyright holder before entering your quilt, and this may include the need to obtain permission to sell your workNote that replicating only part of someone else’s work may still be subject to copyright requirements. Copyright requirements vary around the world. In New Zealand, copyright generally expires 50 years after the death of the person who creates the image.

Quilt Categories:

  • Contemporary Quilts: These are more modern in design and form. Can be whole cloth, pieced, appliqued, hand quilted, machine quilted or a combination of techniques. Original design is encouraged.
  • Traditional Quilts: Quilts that use a traditional design or pattern, usually have sashing between blocks and around border. A variety of techniques may be used.
  • Art Quilts: Quilts with a strong visual impact, designed to be displayed as an artwork, communicating an idea, emotion or concept. A variety of techniques may be used.
  • Modern Quilts: Quilts that are minimalist with clean, modern design and strong visual impact. They may feature the use of negative space, no borders, bright and graphic colour palettes. They are quilted in a way that is sympathetic to the design.
  • Pictorial Quilts: Quilts that are one of a kind and have imagery that is realistic or present a motif that is recognizable. It could consist of characters, landscapes, flowers, animals, etc.

Entry Details:

  1. Entrants must be current Members of Aotearoa Quilters. The entry fee is $20 for each quilt.
  2. Each quilt entered will require a separate entry form to be submitted online.
  3. Aotearoa Quilters reserve the right not to accept any quilts that do not meet the conditions of entry or that the Committee deems as not being a suitable entry.
  4. Insurance of all entries are the responsibility of the entrant. Whilst all care will be taken, Aotearoa Quilters will not accept liability for any loss, misdirected or delayed mail or damage or loss of entries while in their care.
  5. All parties involved in the construction and quilting of the quilt must be named on the entry form.
  6. Quilts that are made from patterns, kits, or classes and/or quilted by someone else can be entered but will not be eligible for certain awards.
  7. Selection of quilts will be made by photograph. Do not send quilts until you receive notification of where and when to send.
  8. Selectors/Judges decisions shall be final and no correspondence will be entered into.
  9. Judges reserve the right to move a quilt into a different category if necessary.
  10. Entries maybe for sale at the price set by the maker, Aotearoa Quilters will retain a 15% commission.
  11. Photographing of the exhibition will be permitted by the general public.
  12. Aotearoa Quilters may use photographic images for promotional purposes. Quilt makers will be acknowledged.

Hanging and Identification Details:

Hanging and identification details will be outlined in the acceptance email.

Photographic Details:

It is important to submit good quality photographs as they will be used for selection into the exhibition. Quilts need to be hanging flat and straight in a well-lit position for photographing. The colours of the photograph need to be as close as possible to the actual quilt, all border edges to be visible (excluding the detail photo).

Two photos are required for each entry – A full photo that has all the borders of the quilt showing and a close up photos showing the detail of the quilt. (Not as zoomed in cropped photo)

Name the photo files and check the file size before before completing your entry forms.

  1. Each file must be no smaller than 2 Mb and no larger that 8 Mb in jpg or jpeg format.
  2. Name each photo file as follows:
    • Full Quilt Photo – Entrants Last name – Quilt title-Full
    • Detail Quilt Photo 0 Entrants Last name – Quilt title-Detail

Submissions:

Online entry and photographs must be submitted by 14th March 2025. Notification for selection/non selection will be in April 2025.
